Lantern Terrace

Driffield, East Riding of Yorkshire

2019 - Present

On a tight urban site in Driffield this reconfiguration of a Victorian terrace builds on the existing qualities of this family home with the addition of a new lanterned extension enhancing the quality of light, thermal performance, spatial organisation & natural ventilation strategies of this characterful dwelling.

The extension also strengthens the visual & physical relationship between the home’s living area and garden.

Through the careful coordination of sub-contractors and frequent distanced meetings with our client, main contractor and our team have managed to keep steady progress through the 2020 lockdown reaching a complete shell with significant restoration work to the existing slated roof within 4 weeks.

The new lanterned sun room not only brings in great levels of natural light and air but also connects the kitchen, garden and existing living area all of which were previously separate areas.

The project is made using reclaimed brickwork and a lightweight timber frame to keep the projects embodied carbon as low as possible.
